From October to April the town is at capacity and everything downstream of that is harder: parking, permits, accommodation minimum stays, and the time it takes to get from Bangalow to Wategos on a Saturday afternoon. Festival weekends are worse again. Couples who can move midweek get better sites, cheaper rooms for their guests and a beach that is not being walked across by a hundred people.

Out of season it is one of the best places in the country to hold a ceremony. May to September is dry, the light is long and low from about three o'clock, and the shire's ceremony sites can often be booked at a fortnight's notice rather than six months'.
