Ceremonies here run from $495 for legals-only to $1,350 for a full Saturday wedding, and funerals are $750. Tyalgum, Uki, Crystal Creek and the Tweed Regional Gallery are all inside twenty minutes, and a same-week booking is usually possible midweek.

The valley, practically

Murwillumbah sits on the floor of an eroded volcano, with Wollumbin at the western end of nearly every view. The roads out — to Uki and Kyogle, to Tyalgum, to Chillingham and Numinbah, down the river to Condong and the coast — run twenty to forty minutes and all of them narrow as they climb. After heavy rain some close, which is worth knowing when the ceremony is at four and half the guests are coming over the range.

Mobile coverage is good in town and unreliable above Uki or past Tyalgum. For anything in the upper valley the practical answer is a printed run sheet, a meeting point rather than a dropped pin, and one phone number that belongs to somebody already standing at the site.

What being local actually buys

No travel charge anywhere in the shire, no minimum booking, and no half-day of driving behind any of it. Looking at a site before you commit to it is a twenty-minute drive rather than a billable exercise, and a midweek date at a week's notice is usually possible because nothing has to be moved to make room for it.

It also means the Tweed Shire permit system is familiar rather than researched: which reserves take ceremonies, which of them have parking, which get taken first for summer sunsets, and what the fee is before you ring the council. Permits are passed through at exactly what the shire charges.

Which registry

A marriage in the Tweed Valley is registered in NSW by the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages: a standard certificate is $70 and its own registry ceremony $482 on a weekday. What differs across the border.

Do you charge travel in the Tweed Valley?
No. Travel within 30 km of Murwillumbah is included in every price, which covers Murwillumbah, Uki, Tyalgum, Stokers Siding, Burringbar, Crystal Creek and the whole valley up to the base of Wollumbin. Beyond that ring it is $1 per kilometre round trip.
Where do people get married in the Tweed Valley?
Private property is the most common answer here, because so many families have a paddock with Wollumbin in the background. Beyond that: Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat, the Tweed Regional Gallery grounds, the Tyalgum hall and hinterland pubs, and the swimming holes above Uki for very small ceremonies.
Do we need a permit to marry in the Tweed hinterland?
On private property, no. In a Tweed Shire reserve, park or swimming hole, yes — the shire runs a booking system, fees are around $124 to $320 depending on the site, and popular spots get taken months ahead. Permits are passed through at cost.
