How far north is worth it

Travel beyond thirty kilometres from Murwillumbah is $1 per kilometre round trip, which puts Currumbin at about $20, Burleigh at about $30 and Broadbeach at roughly $50. Past that the figure keeps climbing and the drive starts eating the hour before the ceremony, which is the hour that matters most.

So the honest line is Burleigh and the hinterland behind it. North of Broadbeach a celebrant based on the Coast will usually work out cheaper for you and be less exposed to the M1 on a Friday afternoon. Saying so loses the occasional booking and saves the couples it would have gone wrong for, which is the better trade.

The hinterland is closer than the beach

Springbrook, Currumbin Valley, Numinbah and Tamborine Mountain read as remote from Surfers Paradise and are not remote from the Tweed Valley — the road up the back of Numinbah is a shorter drive from Murwillumbah than Palm Beach is. Cedar Creek Estate, Gold Coast Farm House and the Springbrook properties are all comfortable distances.

They are also several degrees cooler than the strip in February, they hold their light later because the ground is higher, and most of them manage their own ceremony approvals — so there is no council booking to make, no site fee to pass through and nobody else's sunset slot to compete for.
